I just purchased and received an EOS R50 Camera. This is the first digital camera I have owned. I followed the instructions as best I could for pairing the camera with the Canon Connect app. My phone is a Pixel 9 Pro XL. It seems I am able to make the Bluetooth connection between the camera and my device. However, when I try to import images I have box on the app pop up that says "Switching the connection to a faster WiFi connection." The box seems to process with a "Connecting to Camera" message for about three minutes before ending in an error message. I've searched YouTube videos and this forum but I'm at a loss. Any help will be appreciated.

See this thread on the forum from 2024. Maybe there is something in there that will help you:

Sounds like you’re doing it right.

Make sure that camera WiFi is enabled. Make sure that the phone is not requiring permission to join a new WiFi network.

Greetings,

The R50 uses a more modern connection standard which is not as friendly as the old standard.

Canon : Product Manual : EOS R50 : Communication Functions https://share.google/mjDb0VgjBlqi9V5Kx

For wireless connection two connection methods can be used. Connect to wireless network or Connect to camera. The first requires that you connect your camera and your smartphone to the same wireless network. The latter method allows your smartphone to connect directly to the camera. This is called access point mode (AdHoc) connection. This one is the most common since it doesn't require an external network and works anywhere. It's possible for you to manually specify the camera's SSID broadcast name and password. Personally, I don't modify these, I use what the camera creates automatically. Once the camera is broadcasting, you can open up your phones network settings and select your cameras wireless broadcast.

I use the manual connection method as it allows me to see the SSID and password. The new connection standard is a little more cumbersome to use, but you can eventually get there with a few button presses.

See the other thread that my colleague referenced above. I have some screenshots there.

Review the user guide for more information.
