Good Morning Rick, At first look I told myself all on your list was in order. Then I double checked settings and found the recording option was no on Multitple. Wouldn't have suspected it, but... Appreciate your response.

Randy

EOS R5 CF card not recording images

Using CANON R5 with CF and SD cards both set to raw. Cards formatted and used for approx 100 images. Morning shoot took 65 images. When home, CF had none of the images but the SD had all images. Took a couple of shots in house and outside to test and both cards successfully recorded images. Anyone have any experience or understanding why this may have happened?.

Greetings,

The most common causes for behavior like this is / are:

Not formatting a card before use

Removing or switching cards and powering on the camera with one card removed

Not setting card 1 or card 2 as the recording destination.

Changing recording options from standard to relay or record single or record multiple

Choosing a recording format that is not supported by the destination card

Changing the file naming convention or folder structure

99% of the time it's user error 😉

This link may help if you haven't set the camera up to record to both cards. As Rick suggested I would format both cards in camera prior to making any changes to ensure they are clean.

Randy

I can't speak for others, but I definitely know that I have been guilty of this once or twice. Now, I always leave the memory card door open when I have a card removed. This ensures I won't inadvertently turn the camera on. In my use case, I record video to my CF Express B and images to my SD. Since I'm using v90s I don't have any issues shooting H+. My problem(s) happened when I took the SD card out to download images. While that was happening, i turned my camera back on to review video. Then I put the SD back in the camera and formatted it. Low and behold all of my images starting getting captured on my CF Express B card. After doing this a second time and having a brief heart attack moment, I've never made the mistake again. 😂

Rick...I can definitely relate to the heart attack reaction. Was never so gratified that I had set the SD with raw as well. Funny, in a peculiar way, how we all have stories of the errors of our ways (that make us better).

Randy

Plymouth, MA
