EOS R6 Mark II viewfinder is black with vertical battery grip attached

When I attach the grip to my camera everything looks black through the view finder. I've had vertical battery grips for other canon models and never run into this. Can anyone tell me what I may be missing?

Hi @Canakat welcome to the forums. What battery grip are you using 3rd Party or Canon. What batteries are you using. If it is a Canon battery grip what model is it. Every Canon camera has a specific battery grip that goes with it.

Is the only effect of the grip the black viewfinder? Does the rest of the camera work, or is the camera completely dead? Could be a bad-acting grip that is shorting something out.

It pretty much crashes the entire camera, until I remove it. And then it takes a little work to get everything reset. I suppose I should return it ?

Battery Grip BG-R10 is a new item. Listed to fit Canon EOS R5/R6/R5C. The batteries I'm using are Canon LP-E6P. So it is not an actual Canon battery grip. I assume I should return it and purchase a "Canon".

Return, Yes. I suggest you not connect a 3rd party "BG-R10" to your body.

Buy the Canon brand grip for your your camera. If you want to save a little cash, buy used, but I'd stay away from off brands. 😉

I think you will need the Canon BG-R20 Battery Grip. I'm not sure how the buttons are arranged, so you may want to confirm that all is well... It's pretty expensive.

Thanks Newton... Completely missed that. Yes, the BG-R10 is for the original R6. You have to have the BG-R20 for the R6 Mark II.

Assuming you have the correct Canon grip, make certain that you have fully tightened the grip onto the body. Finger tight is adequate.
