Hi. I have had the same problems for years. Two consecutive frames, seconds apart, with different image settings. Nothing I did, no buttons pressed, just wildly different image settings. I'm ready to get a new camera. Did you ever identify why this happened and if it's fixable?

I recently had an expereince where my 70D, which I had set to save RAW and highest quality JPEGS, spontaneously switched to saving only lowest quality JPEGs. This happened at a point where I forgot to turn the camera off first before switching lenses.

Do you think that mishap caused this glitch? It's unnerving to think the camera might do this again without me realizing it. I lost several hours of photography not knowing this had happened.

I will start a new thread. But I'm not alone with this mysterious Canon 70D problem, and I'm not an amateur. Settings changed in a way that absolutely has to be machine error, not human error. There's no way my chin moved my settings, in consecutive frames, from L JPEG (alone) to RAW + S3 (2 image versions). That requires 2 touches and a wheel turn—which didn't happen. It's bizarre and it's random as to when it happens, and I agree it seems impossible to be a camera error. But it's equally impossible that I shifted 2 image quality settings without moving the camera from my eye. Have a nice day.

LCD touch screen? A nose or cheek or chin? Any electronic device can have internal hardware glitches.

What sort of relief are you seeking? The camera is quite old. How long have you been experiencing these issues?

The 70D reached the if it’s Canon service life a few years ago. It is no longer being repaired by Canon. No more firmware updates.

To play devil's advocate, if you don't know why this happened, how will you be certain that buying another camera will solve it?

Was it the same camera model as the poster?

If it is also a 70D, my cursory examination of its repairability finds that Canon no longer services it. That said, there was a motherboard issue with the 70D, but again it's out of warranty and out of Canon's repair time frame.

If it is not a 70D then it very likely is the "perfect storm of pushing buttons".

When shooting, periodically check your settings if you think the camera is malfunctioning.
