topic Usable shutter count for Canon 5d Mark IV in EOS DSLR & Mirrorless Cameras

I am considering a used 5d Mark IV but want to get an idea of what shutter counts still offer it some use. I am an amateur and—being an old film guy—I tend to not do a lot fo burst shooting. Would a 5d with 125-150K on the shutter still ofer a few years of use? (Yes, I know "your mileage may vary" but just want to get an idea of the headroom that might be left.

Thanks

Shutter Count doesn’t tell much about how the camera has been cared for, beaten up, cleaned, or abused, The spec is an average MTBF, mean time between failures.

The shutter count spec for the camera isn’t a hard stop. Not uncommon for some shutters rated for 100,000 clicks to last for 1,000,000 clicks. Keep the mirror box clean and the shutter will last.

I have sold a bodies where the buyer wanted to know the shutter count. It’s a rabbit hole discussion that I rather avoid. I raised my price. I wanted to cover the cost of sending the camera to Canon for a doated, documented report.

Once you tell them a shutter count, that’s when the deep dive into the rabbit hole begins.

When was the count measured?

How do you know it’s correct?

How much has it been used since?

That’s when Zo raise the price more.

"I am considering a used 5d Mark IV ..."

I agree completely with the above reply. And to continue a shutter failure is not a death sentence if the camera is still under service by Canon. Depending on what you pay for it and the cost of a new shutter you may get a virtually new camera for way less than a 5D Mk IV sold for. The 5D Mk IV is a fantastic camera.

Pay attention to, "...doesn’t tell much about how the camera has been cared for, beaten up, cleaned, or abused,...".

How it looks, how it was stored and, yes, how was,it used is far more important than shutter count.
