EOS R6 Mark III MP4 Not playable on Macbook

So the other day I recorded a kindergarten ceremony with my Canon r6 Mark III

i shot a total of 26 files. for some reason my Mac won’t play the 24th file (mp4)

QuickTime tells me the file is not supported, VLC doesn’t recognize it either.

and the weird thing this, I can see the video in the camera itself.

i transferred the files via USB (camera to MacBook) cable just an fyi.

I can see the video and play it fine in the camera but once I try to view it elsewhere (MacBook) it doesn’t want to play it.

I think that might only work for CR3 files, not MP4 files ?

It is Canon's software designed to display files from Canon's cameras. It certainly has the best chance.

(Unless the file is corrupt in some way)

DPP is free, so it is worth having in any case.

No, it won't solve your problem. It will play Raw movie files, but not MOV or MP4. You will also have to let it install an HEVC codec for certain features of the R6 series cameras to be accessible, which you do from the help menu.

However, you still should have it for it's handling of Canon Raw files and native camera and lens profiles.

I will install the HEVC codec (Mac OS X) tonight. Hopefully with that I can play/view the file.

If only one of your files will not play, I doubt installing that codec will help.

I only mentioned the codec because you would have to install it using DPP 4 to be able to utilize R6 series Raw file features, like HDR PQ which allows you to create HEIF files to view on your Mac.

I went ahead and bought a card reader (CFExpress Card reader). I was able to view and download the files from there with no issues. Case closed

Thanks for letting us know. You might need a new USB cable. Macs can be pretty fussy about that.
