I think most devices that can handle being without power for a short time have a small, internal battery to maintain essential functions, like remembering settings and keeping the TOD clock updated. However, if that battery goes bad, then even those basic functions are going to start failing. It sounds like that might be what you're encountering. In some devices these are basically watch batteries that can be changed by opening up the device. But I have no idea what the M6 has. (Or any modern camera, for that matter.)

Looking through this forum, and considering my own experience, I am starting to conclude that this is an M6 Mark II design flaw. I've only seen this on older cameras and devices that had a user-serviceable battery you could change. I also believe there is no store of repair parts that Canon could fix this with, so what happens is that you wind up buying a refurbished EOS M6 Mark II. It hasn't happened on my refurbished one, but ... we'll see.

That works, by the way. and it's a decent workaround -- the problem is that the batteries are not particularly large, and it's easy to wind up needing a battery change during a shoot. You /could/ use one of those power bricks, I suppose. None of these solutions are ideal.

I tried the quick battery swap out procedure until I became very proficient at it. It NEVER worked!

We are doomed to live with resetting the date and time with every battery change.

Greetings TheHammer,

The camera's internal clock uses a small built-in rechargeable date and time battery that charges automatically whenever a main battery is left inside the camera. Because your clock is resetting during a battery swap, it probably means that the internal date and time battery has dropped below its necessary voltage and can no longer hold a charge. Try inserting a charged battery pack into the camera and leaving the camera turned off for at least 24 hours to see if that gives the internal battery a full deep charge. In case the time still resets then means the internal battery has reached the end of its lifespan. We would suggest on sending the camera to our facility to have it replaced.

Canon U.S.A., Inc. has created a new online repair portal that allows you to set up service in a few simple steps. The repair portal gives you the ability to set up service for multiple pieces of equipment at once, and to receive a repair estimate in the majority of cases, depending on your model and issue. The portal also allows you to upload images or videos that will assist us in repairing your product. You can also select how you wish to be notified of the progress of your repair. The portal's service history section allows you to view all services that have been performed on any of your camera or video products since January 7, 2020.

Please follow the link below to access our online repair portal to arrange for service:

https://mycanon.usa.canon.com/signin

Instructions for Accessing and Using the Online Repair Portal.

You will need to access or create your My Canon Account.

If you already have a My Canon Account and your product is already registered, simply click on the “Get Repair Services” link on the left menu and follow the onscreen instructions to arrange for service for your product.

If you have a My Canon Account and your product is not registered, you must register your product first. Click on the “Get Repair Services” link on the left menu, then click on the “Register Product” link on the right. After your product is registered, click on the “Get Repair Service” link on the left menu and follow the onscreen instructions to arrange for service for your product.

If you do not have a My Canon Account, you will need to create one. After you create your account, click on the “Add Product” link to register your first product. After your product is registered, click on the “Get Repair Service” link on the left menu and follow the onscreen instructions to arrange for service for your product.

Once you have completed the repair request, you will have an opportunity to print a copy of the request for your records. This request form will also contain shipping instructions and an address label that you will attach to the outside of your shipping box when mailing your equipment for repair.
