Note about Safety Shift. The above note indicates that if you manually use a manual setting that exceeds the limit defined for Auto mode, then Safety Shift will ignore the predefined limits and correct the exposure.

The note describes ISO, but I suspect it applies to shutter speed and aperture, too.’Keep Safety Shift disabled.

EOS R6 Auto iso jumps from 6400 to 12800

Using a canon r6. 3rd party lenses. I do mostly pro wrestling and concerts. I’ve been trying to set my auto iso to max 8000 but it skips it going from 6400-12800. I can’t max it at 8000. My shutter speed for both types of events is around 640-800 depending, MAYBE 1000 for pro wrestling. I’ve even seen that I can max it at 8000 when I have it set at 1/3. But it still skips over 8000. I don’t always need 12800. My r6 handles it very well but I’d rather not max it at 12800 if I don’t need it. Made that mistake one night and had to go back on some matches and denoise more than I’d like.

canon r6.
28-70 2.8 Tamron and 70-200 2.8 Tamron.

That’s an unusual behavior. I can only speculate and suggest settings to check. But first, is this a new issue? How long have you been using this body? I ask because the R6 is several years old.

As for your current issue, my first thought was to confirm that you are setting ISO limits for the ISO Auto mode, not just the Manual ISO mode.

My next thought was Safety Shift, which can override the preset limits under certain conditions. I don’t think that is the issue, either.

It’s possible that the third party lenses are sending incorrect information to the camera. Some third party lenses do try to fool the camera, except a lens has nothing to do with ISO.

My final suggestion would be to fully reset the camera back to its factory defaults.

theperfectplex,

I have a T8i, and in the menu system, my camera does the same. Each full stop of ISO is double the amount of light, so it jumps from 200 to 400 to 800... 6400 to 12800. There is no setting for ISO 8000.

My manual does say that if you set your ISO to Auto, the viewfinder and the LCD screen will show the actual ISO being used at the time of the shot (ISO 125, 160 etc.).

I have my max ISO set at 12800 for those times when I need it. I've never tried 25600.

Waddizzle,

My T8i does not have Automatic Exposure Compensation. I have to set it manually. I do have Automatic Exposure Bracketing, but not Compensation. Maybe the R6 does.
