Does she have the strobes set at full power or are they dialed way down? Where is the aperture set on the camera?

With studio strobes, she will drive herself crazy trying to set them up for proper lighting and balance without a light meter. I use a variety of Hensel Expert D studio strobes with my Canon bodies and I would be lost without my Gossen digital light meter.

The Hensel strobes use a matching transmitter that fits the camera hot shoe and triggers the flashes. I would look into getting a wireless trigger for her strobes if she plans to do a lot of work with them because sync cables are a pain unless the camera is siting in one place. The strobes she is using are highly reliable and do a great job.

My wife has an EOS R5 and she’s trying to use her old studio lights which are Bowens Gemini GM500PRO. She is using the sync port with a cable. The lights are flashing on but the images are underexposed.

We’re following the online recommendations: manual shooting, expo simulation disabled, shutter speed 1/160. She started with ISO 100 which was just black and even at ISO 800 its super dark. We’re shooting indoors with ambient light.

Any suggestions? Maybe its the sync port cable
