topic EOS R 7 why is AF Point selection button (#7) linked to M-Fn button in EOS DSLR & Mirrorless Cameras

Just purchased the R 7 and trying to set top custom functions as I have set up for all my other Canon Cameras.

I have always used the AF Point selection button ( number 7 in the manual) to immediately be able to scroll through the point selection options. However with the R 7, as configured from factory, i need to first depress the AF Point selection button and then depress the M-Fn button to then scroll through the options.

What am I missing, I can't seem to set this as it's default operation without it being linked to the M-Fn button as well.

Kim

Setting to be changed are in the Orange menu, under Tab 3. Customize buttons option. In order to dedicate the one press option on the AF Point selection button (#7) you first have to change the setting for the M-Fn button. By default it is set to "Dual Function". This has to be set and saved to whatever option you would like OTHER THAN "Dual Function". I set mine to the "Start/stop tracking option" based on other customizations I chose. Then go into the AF Point selection button and make sure it is set to the first option, which is the AF Point selection icon. This then set up the button for one touch scroll through the AF Point selection menu. You can further customize the options to limit which AF Point selections options you regularly use to as opposed to scrolling through all the options available. This is under the Purple menu, tab 4, Limit AF Areas. Just toggle through and uncheck the ones you don't want to display. Hopes this helps, Cheers Kim

Sorry, forgot to add, if you choose to limit the AF Points then you need to change the setting for Button 7 to the 4th option (not the 1st). "Direct AF Area Selection" ( it's got a two way arrow over 2 squares.) K
