“ I have occasionally (accidentally) set the program to 1 second between shots and it ran beautifully with about the same number of missed shots. So far I cannot see any difference between long and short delays between images. “

What exactly does that mean? How long is long? How short is short?

In order to best advise you with specific solutions, we will need more detailed information about how you are using the camera.

You have stated that you are using a 30 sec long exposure with a 31 second interval.

What Noise Reduction settings are enabled, if any?

What Image Correction settings are enabled, if any?

Have you tried disconnecting the rails and the remote connectivity and simply took a 30 second exposure, yet? How long does red LED stay lit?

I have a EOS T5 that I am using for macrophotography. I use a Wemacro focusing rail and the Canon utility program and am shooting a series of images for focus stacking.

When shooting my camera randomly fails to fire. This can be one missed frame or several (5 to 6 in a row). My cables seem to be OK and I have changed settings to allow time for image download, but nothing seems to resolve the issue. Others have had this problem, but I have not yet seen a solution.

Any suggestions?

Hello! openskycc login

Your EOS T5 misfires during focus stacking are likely due to timing and communication issues between the camera, rail, and EOS Utility. The most reliable fix is to save images directly to the SD card instead of auto‑downloading, add longer delays between shots, use a fast card, and trigger the shutter through the Wemacro rail rather than USB. Also ensure stable power with a full battery or AC adapter. This setup usually prevents missed frames.

it sounds to me that your interval between shots could be too short, too. You must allow for the time it takes to capture and save the image. Noise reduction settings can significantly increase the amount of time to save an image.

I have only set it as far as 6 to 8 seconds with no clear improvement. I have never had trouble with astronomical imaging which is up to 10 minutes of exposure (but not with wemacro). This does seem to be some sort of timing issue, but the solution is not yet obvious.

I am not using any noise reduction or image correction.

Again, when I have accidentally used 1 second delays I get the same issue or an improvement with no apparent down-load issues..

How? Basic troubleshooting.

Disconnect everything and test the camera by itself. No accessories. No remote control. Let it capture a 30 second exposure and observe what happens for the next minute.

—————————-

“ This does seem to be some sort of timing issue, but the solution is not yet obvious. “

Obviously , there is. You need to perform basic troubleshooting. Is there a problem with the camera, your settings, or Wemacro?

Until you seperate them out, you will never figure it out.

To start with, I didn't use EOSU and just used the utility that came with my Wemacro rail. It automatically stores your stack on camera. Don't bother looking in the Wemacro utility, it just does it by default.

As for EOSU, version 2 and 3 both allow you to set d/l and folder options. If it's not showing, it could be because you have the macro rail in the mix.
