Agree. Many 3rd party batteries are not properly decoded for Canon's newer body's. Just buy OEM, its worth it.

Hi,

I have the equipment mentioned in the title. I also have a Tascam CX-XLR2d fitted to it.

Everything was working fine, until about a week ago, when the camera was telling me the battery needed charging (!)

I swapped out with the actual battery and that worked fine. Before returning the Neweer, I tried it again and it worked fine. However I noticed that over time, the camera was reporting the remaining battery life going down. This morning, I'm told I need to charge the battery again!

Has anyone else seen this behavior? Is there a setting I need to change? Do I just need a different Dummy Battery?

TIA

Agreed. I would love a dual-battery grip for my R8, but I am very hesitant to buy an off-brand product.

Been there, done that and have a couple batteries to recycle. I got a very nice double-pack of direct-to-USB-C batteries - Artman LP-E6 LP-E6NH Battery 2-Pack 2500mAh. First time I used these I had weird and unexpected failures in my R6 Mkii - autofocus failures and associated failures to actuate. I switched back to OEM batteries and the issues disappeared.

I'm all for saving money where I can, but this isn't one of those areas.

Since Canon only sells LP-E6P battery now there are a slew of good used OEM LP-E6N batteries on MPB and other reputable sites. I picked up a couple some time ago. They will drive our R6 Mkii units just fine, but if we ever upgrade to the R6 Mkiii then they will be paperweights, so the newer battery future-proofs you to a point. As I'm not planning on upgrading for a long time there may be yet another discontinued battery model by then so I'm personally sticking with the LP-E6Ns. If you choose to get the LP-E6P you'll need to be running at least firmware 1.5.0 for those to work, but you should be on version 1.6.0, which is the latest.

I suppose Canon could issue firmware for the R6 Mkii that isn't compatible with their OEM LP-E6N, but I don't believe that has ever happened before. They certainly have obsoleted third party batteries via firmware. I very happily ran a mix of third party and OEM batteries in my RP without issues. I learned my lesson on the R6 Mkii, though, and won't take that chance again.

I'm sorry to hear you wasted your money on third party batteries - join the club.
