EOS R6 Mark III not tethering in Lightroom Classic

Hello,

I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with the R6 Mark III. I have tried everything and cannot figure out how to tether to Lightroom classic. I have the most up to date Lightroom Classic...I have the newest firmware on the Canon. The camera is not even being recognized by lightroom. This is literally the only thing I needed this camera to do. Has anyone successfully tethered their camera?

I have not upgraded to the R6III, yet. What OS are you running?

I am also having trouble shooting tethered with my brand-new Canon R6 Mark III. 
Lightroom is up to date 15.2.1, my computer runs OS Tahoe 26.3.1, and it just won't work! 
The cable is also new and 2 meters long. Who can help me?

SarahEliott what OS are you running? Windows or Mac? Although you need the latest raw converter for color rendition you don't need it for connectivity to LR. Without knowing anymore than what you said I am guessing it is a computer issue and not a R6 MK III or LR problem. A virus app or firewall?

Unless you are trying to use a very long cable I doubt that is the problem. I have run 25 feet no problem. And longer using an active USB cable (75 feet). Try a new USB cable less than 25 feet long. You do need a high-quality data cable that supports both data transfer and power. Try leaving the SD out of the camera.

Thanks for your quick response. 
I have two computers, a brand-new MacBook Pro and a not-so-old Mac Studio M2. 
Both run on OS Tahoe. I don't have any antivirus program or firewall, the (new) high-quality 
USB cable is 6.5 feet, so it's short, but I have also tried a longer one. 
I'm at a loss.

It’s a different type of USB port compared to your 1Dx. It’s a much faster interface.

The standard cable supplied by Canon is 1.5m. I tried a 3m cable by Belkin. It didn’t work. Long cables don’t work.

I first tried tethering to my very old laptop...a Macbook Pro from 2018 running Monterey. I assumed it was because my laptop was so old...so I bought the newest Macbook Pro which is running Tahoe. My Lightroom Classic is 15.2.1.

I use a similar cable when tethering with my 5D Mark IV.

I could never use a 1.5 or even a 3 m cable to shoot with. I need length between my camera and laptop.

I tired SD's out...SD's in - reformatted them multiple times.

I feel like it's absolutely ridiculous to have put this much time just trying to get this camera to work. Where is Cannon support on this???

Hoe long is your cable? The standard cable is only 1.0 meters long. It also has baluns to reduce RF interference. Cables without them probably won’t work.

B and H said to buy this one. It's the same that I use for my 5D Mark IV. I could never shoot with a 2 m cable, not enough slack for me.

The R6 Mark III Canon manual at https://cam.start.canon/en/C022/manual/html/UG-11_Reference_0090.html specifies a higher-speed cable than the one in your B&H link. It calls out "Equivalent to USB 10 Gbps (SuperSpeed Plus USB / USB 3.2 Gen 2)" versus the lower-speed 5Gbps cable from B&H. I suggest you find a short compatible full high-quality high-speed USB-C cable and verify functionality with that cable and then find out if you can obtain a longer cable that meets the the Canon speed specifications as outlined in the manual.

Same problem. In Lightroom, I get that small elongated window with the info, 'no camera detected'; below this text, however, is the name of the folder I provided. Furthermore, on the camera info screen, a laptop icon is visible alternately and, very briefly, the normal camera info.

The USB-C specification in the R6 Mark III appears to be the latest and highest quality USB-C available and you'll need to get the right cable to support it. For some time now charging a Canon camera has not worked over USB-A to USB-C cables and more and more devices are moving to the newer and faster standards. I took the chart below from benq.com, who sell projectors, monitors, etc. It doesn't take much work to find out there are a significant number of USB-C cable options. This is also true of HDMI, of course. The Canon manual implies you'll need a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, and a cable sustaining that for the distance you want, which may imply you might be better off with a USB-4 cable.

I will note that a quick search of cables shows many online cables showing 3.2 capability and compatibility, but that does not imply true native 3.2 Gen-2 Type C certification.

I suspect that this is a cabling problem. The B&H cable at the link is 25 feet long and is rated at 6 gigabits. It also lacks baluns, which are essential with the camera.

Has the connection been tested with the Canon cable that came with the camera?

I had bought (2) 3 meter cables. Neither cable worked. But the cable that came with the camera worked fine.
