EOS R8 Shutter button suddenly stopped working - Please help!

Hello All!

Thanks for reading this post. I'm in dire need of help. I have a 2 month old R8 that I love and I bought it new. I'm having a problem and cannot take anymore photos all of a sudden. My shutter button has become completely irresponsive. I cannot use it to focus or take photos. I am able to take photos using the touchscreen. I have tried to reset it by removing the battery and holding down the shutter for 30 seconds. I also tried changing the battery with another that is working on my R10. I also tried changing lenses; 1) the error first occurred when I had my 100mm canon macro lens, 2) then I tried my 85mm canon macro lens and no luck. At this point I'm getting desperate and am out of idea. I'm not getting anything else from search the web or the forums. Thank you all in advance!

One more tidbit that makes this situation much worse is that I can only take one photo with the touch screen and then it will no longer take any more photos. It will focus again but no shutter action. That's regardless of if I have the touch screen shutter set to on or off. It does the same thing if I hold down the AF on button, just takes one photo and then it will focus but no shutter.

I have to power cycle to take another photo. I'm so sad.

One of the things mentioned frequently here as the source of a myriad of problems is using a micro SD card in an adapter. If that is your set up, others who know more than I do will bring it up. I have no knowledge whether a micro SD malfunctioning could even cause your issue, just that they seem to cause havoc quite often. If that's your set up, then get a "real" SD card because even if it isn't a cause of this predicament, doing so will prevent other predicaments.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am using a legit full size SD card - Delkin devices Power 128gb.

You could try resetting the camera, but I don't think that is the problem.

Two months old it is still under warranty. Contact Canon and make arrangements for sending it in for check out.

And the mother ship will make it right!! Frustrating, but that is what warranties are for.
