EOS R1 Change in display brightness

On my R1, when I switch from Photo mode to Video mode, the LCD display consistently gets dimmer. Today, in Photo mode, I'm in Tv with Auto ISO; in Video mode I'm in C2 with P mode and auto ISO.

I thought maybe it was a difference in the "Display Simulation" setting but I can't find it in video mode. In Photo mode, I have it set to "Exposure". Even when I set it to Off, I still get a change. Exposure compensation is 0 in both cases.

Is this normal or do I have something fixed or adjusted in a weird way?

Hi pedz,

The Display Simulation setting is only available in photo modes, so if you are using that you will see a difference in the LCD brightness when you switch to the movie mode. In photo mode the Display Simulation sets the camera to keep an even brightness regardless of how over or under exposed your settings are. In video mode the camera is always going to show how it expects your exposure to look, so if the settings are giving a lower exposure in video mode it will look darker.

There is one other setting to check that is available in both photo and video modes. Depending on how the Power Saving settings are dialed in for those modes the camera can more quickly dim the LCD to save power. Since you are using a custom mode in video the Power Saving setting could be different in your custom video mode than it is in your Tv photo mode. To check that press the menu button on the camera, go to the fourth page under the yellow wrench icon, select Power Saving, and set the Screen Dimmer timer to wait longer to dim.

Realize this is happening in video mode. However, also take a look at your LCD brightness settings in photo mode in addition to @Hazel_T's suggestion.
