EOS R3 How to change default AF point to something other than the centre

I'm using an R3 and was looking for a way to move the centre AF point function (when you press the multi-direction toggle button on the back and it moves the focus array to the centre of the screen) so that it centres higher on the screen and not just in the exact centre of the screen. I came across the instructions called Registering AF Points (Home Position) (scroll halfway down this page) https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/s/article/ART182096#AF-Drive_0060_13 and followed them. Unfortunately the instructions are next to useless and haven't been updated since I tried setting them on my MkIV years ago. The issues I have are as follows:

- It tells you how to register a point but not how to jump back to that point later on

- It says the camera will chime when you set it but mine doesn't. Confusingly the register box appears directly under the current array cursor so you don't think it registered until you move your cursor

- The reference box is a grey flashing square that remains wherever you register it and becomes an annoying flashing distraction

Somehow you are supposed to be able to set it for portrait and landscape but I had no luck with portrait

- I can't find any way to remove it so its there on the screen permanently

Has anyone every got this to function as it should?

How do I delete it?

Here is a screenshot of the instructions. If you have not already done so, I recommend downloading an electronic PDF of the User Guide. You can always reach out to Canon Support for help.

After many tries I have finally worked out how to delete the flashing grey square. This is the sequence that worked:

Activate the screen so you can see the grey square

Press and hold the focus array button as per instructions, THEN press the lamp button. It seems one needs to be pressed after the other, not both at once. Its a very quirky and opaque function and I won't activate it again.
