topic EOS R5 Mark II 16 minute recording limit in 4K Fine in EOS DSLR & Mirrorless Cameras

Hello everyone. I'm in USA and have a R5 Mark II. I understand there is a recording limit on this camera of about 16 minutes when recording in 4K Fine, LGOP, 29.97, etc. I also understand that there could be a limit due to overheating. I film long format overhead videos and I started using the R5 Mark II in my overhead rig. Was filming something I was doing on my bench, with my R5C recording as cam 1, and 45 minutes into it, I realize that the R5 MII had stopped recording who knows how long ago. It wasn't overheating, it just stopped recording.

Is this due to the dumb tax rule or is it something else?

I'm using "Standard" card recording, so no proxy, no auto switch, etc. so I can unlock all settings. I'm using the HEVC 422 10 bit, but also tried the XFAVC 422 10 bit mode but to no avail. The recording options stop at 16 minutes. If I go to 2K or HD options, then I unlock longer run times, like 42 minutes, and longer in HD, but I want to match my resolution with my R5C which runs in 4K, same settings basically. R5C is a beast and wish I had 2. I find the R5MII to be next to useless for video. The short clips that come out of it are beautiful though. Just wish I could unlock the longer run times that apparently EU gets to enjoy.

Hopeful for tips.

Welcome to the Community!

Sorry to hear that you’re having issues. May I ask what type of media are you using to store the recordings? I believe the artificial 30 minute time limit no longer exists.
