It's never easy to say goodbye to a camera we enjoy, but that camera is a roughly 15-year-old design. Granted a person has to be wise in their expenditure of money, but if a new camera is the path you go, Canon does have some good choices that would be the same "level" of camera that yours is for reasonable money.

I held onto my Rebel XSi and T3i well past any sane time because I'm a use-it-until-it-dies kind of person when it comes to cameras, but my update to mirrorless has been a revelation.

"... its time for a new camera or can save it?"

There is another option get a different but same camera on the used market. You should always check the used value of a known good working order camera before you entertain any notion of repair. The age,15 years, is not the limiting factor. I have cameras from the last century that still perform as well as they ever did. I am not a person that recommends go mirrorless for the sake of mirrorless. Some people are bling centric and will buy the latest greatest for the sake of the latest greatest. However, if a new camera is in your sights by all means make it a Canon mirrorless model. They are the best.
