topic EOS R50 V audio defaults to highest gain level every time in EOS DSLR & Mirrorless Cameras

I can't believe what I'm HEARING! Just bought the EOS R50V. I can't believe the audio preamps DEFAULT to the highest gain level EVERY TIME you turn on the camera! Am I the only one? I have to have a faulty unit right? I almost blew out my eardrums just TESTING the **bleep** thing! I don't mean any disrespect but I've ALWAYS only shot on Canon cameras and I've NEVER witnessed that before.

Could be. Manual doesn't really say - https://cam.start.canon/en/C021/manual/html/UG-04_Shooting_0110.html . It is easy to switch to manual if it does and get a level you like assign it to one of your mode dial presents.

In any professional environment we always used sound checks and set accordingly. Setting anything to "Auto" - camera, video, or audio - is unlikely to give truly professional results.

You can call Canon to get a definitive answer. This is just a social media forum - someone here may or may not know for sure. You can also provide Canon feedback and it might get adjusted in a firmware update on your product login page. Look for "[+] Feedback"

Greetings ,

Maybe it's your mic? Does it have an adjustable impedance or decibel adjustment? The camera may be trying to compensate for low impedance or gain? 🤔

I just tested my R50V and change internal mic to manual/lowered level to 25% and turned off the camera. After turning it back on, it preserved the setting. Likely you have auto set. FWIW, I set my video/audio settings and save them to the C1/C2/C3 settings. I always use an external mic though and will set it to manual with 3-4 clicks from the bottom.
