aescaler1,

If you want to save in jpg instead of RAW, you will want to go to your Image Quality. This is on page 74 of your manual.

Hit your Menu button and choose the first tab. This will be in red and has a little icon of a camera. Choose the first setting called Quality. Using your arrow keys you can cycle through various levels of jpg. You also have the option of shooting in jpg and RAW, or just RAW.. If you are getting duplicate images I suspect you have it set to jpg and RAW.

Hi

I have 2 questions and I hope someone can help.

I have a Cannon Rebel EOS T3 - I keep saving my pictures in CR2 File but I want to save it with JPEG type. I am not sure what setting on my camera I should set it to?

I also would like to stop saving duplicate pictures when downloading. What setting would the setting be to stop downloading duplicates?

Thank you in advance

A CR2 file (along with newer CR3 files) are Canon RAW files. These allow for the maximum amount of editing capabilities.

If you never want to edit your images (beyond very basic things), then you can set your camera to capture images in JPEG. If you want the best of both worlds, set your camera to capture both RAW+JPEG.

Refer to pages 74 to 76 of the User Manual

The very best solution is to d/l the EOS Utility and DPP4 from the Canon web site. It is free. You can set up the EOS Utility to automatically launch and import images into a folder that you can then view and edit in DPP4. Always use raw and let DPP4 make the jpg for you. Just one file from your camera and one file on your computer until you want additional ones. All the editing abilities retained and available. You choose to use or not.
