LP-E6P batteries in older cameras.

What are the issues with the newer LP-E6P batteries when used in older cameras? I have always understood that one should never use a higher voltage battery in any device that is calling for a lower voltage. Has Canon put out information on this issue?

@gdeloach24 All LP-E6 series are compatible with all cameras that utilize them. I believe the milliamp hour rating has changed between the older and newer batteries but not the voltage. Original first gen LP-E6 batteries are NOT COMPATIBLE with certain newer EOS R series cameras they won't even turn on at all. What camera are you using the battery in.

All LP-E6 batteries should be the same voltage (7.2 V). What has changed would be total capacity (milliamp hours) and potentially how much power draw can happen.

I cannot find it, and maybe it was on B&H Photo or other reseller at the time, but I believe the LP-E6 series of batteries are both forwards and backwards compatible.

Forgot to say that there will be exceptions in using older LP-E6 series batteries with newer cameras. e.g. for my EOS R5 Mark II, to fully utilize all functions, I need to use LP-E6P batteries.
