Greetings,

About 5 years ago, a large number of 70D:s were affected by a PCB mainboard failure. See this service notice.

https://www.usa.canon.com/support/canon-product-advisories/service-notice-eos-70d-error-70-or-error-80

Canon acknowledged the failure and agreed to repair the devices free for a certain period of time. This has since expired.

Your issue is going to be hardware related. Top Assembly, Button/video switch and/or PCB. This is going to be a costly repair. Canon no longer services this body.

A used 70D can be had for $160-$300. If you can find someone to work on yours, and they could find parts, it will cost more to repair than it would to replace.

Recommendation. If you buy used, use the service notice I referenced to be sure a replacement isn't part of the units affected by the service notice. You can also go for Canon's upgrade loyalty program, Canon Refurbished or just buy a new device. These options might be a wiser use of money (path forward) over trying to get your existing camera repaired. It's up to you. Wishing you luck. 🙂

My EOS 70D camera is stuck in video mode and won't change to photo mode. I've moved the button to photo mode but there's no change. Sometimes it changes itself to video and photo mode quickly which causes the shutter window to move by itself.

Does anyone know where the problem is?

#EOS70D #70D

Marvell,

You can try a camera reset, but more than likely, this is a hardware issue and it's going to need a repair job.
