Greetings,

Am I understanding your post correctly? Autofocus has quit working on your camera in creative modes with all of your other lenses now?

Or did you mean just with the EF 28-135?

A quick review of this lens indicates it is compatible with the 6D Mark II, however, it has some idiosyncrasies of a lens design that's over 25 years old when paired with a more modern body. Your copy could be worn out or tired. There's nothing about it from a compatibility standpoint that would keep it from functioning with the camera in creative modes, it's just an older lens. Since factory resetting the camera did nothing to help, I'd probably return the lens and save yourself the headache.

I purchased a used Canon EF 28-135mm, 1:3.5-5.6 IS lens from a local camera store. As soon as I attached it to my EOS 6D MK II, the autofocus quit working. I tried other lenses, resetting factory settings, and updated the firmware, all without positive results. Interestingly, the autofocus works in the Basic Modes, but not in Creative Mode (P, Tv, Av, M, B) Is this a known issue? And if so, is there a fix?

Thanks Rick - I neglected an important thing - autofocus doesn't work for ANY of my other lenses. Appreciate your thoughts.

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

Extremely rare that a lens could cause or damage the AF on a camera, and make it stop working with any lens attached. Anything is possible but it's highly unlikely (and rare). At this point the only thing you can do is remove all accessories, reset both main and custom functions and retest. If the behavior continues, the body will need to go to Canon for inspection/repair.

MyCanon

After log in, you'll need to register the body. You can then initiate a repair request. Describe the issue in as much detail as possible. Make sure the camera is packaged well and insured. Canon repair on the west coast is in CA, Costa Mesa and on the East Coast, Newport News Virginia.

Obviously I wouldn't connect that lens to any other cameras if it turns out to be the cause.
