What mode is the top mode dial set to when this happens? Are you still taking pictures outside if so snow is white and reflective. This fools the camera's metering system. The camera see's things in gray so if it sees white it will underexpose the picture leading to dark shots.

Hi, i’m an amateur photographer and i recently used my Canon EOS Rebel T7 to take some shots of the snow fall. I was maybe outside for 20 minutes and the whole time the camera worked great, but after i let it acclimate and tried to use it again every photo i take is nothing but a black screen. i’m not sure what to do, i’ve used it in cold conditions before for hours at a time, even during rain and nothing like this has ever occurred so i’m very concerned. please let me know if there is anything i can try to fix this, i’m a little worried.

Yes you can attach pictures to the post. What is the Av set to also are you using Auto ISO or manually set to a value. we need to know what your exposure settings are. Also ensure that metadata is attached to the picture for further diagnosis.

(When I took pictures of the birds in the snow today, I did it from the inside, where I was warm. 8^)

Your exposure settings are incorrect then. Your camera supports something called "Exposure Simulation" when using live view. It shows you how the picture will come out but there are limitations to it. For instance the depth of field will appear narrow (or a blurred background) this is because the lens aperture is wide open at all times until the picture is taken. Then the next limitation is that it DOES NOT work with flash. Seeing that the camera is set to ISO 200 its likely too low for the ambient lighting. ISO 100 & 200 are used when the ambient lighting is bright. A high ISO such as ISO 1600 or 3200 is used in low light. If you set your camera to Auto ISO the camera will automatically adjust your ISO to the correct setting.
