I was gifted a TT520ii flash for my canon eos 250d dslr camera, but in setting it says it’s not compatible and I was wondering what setup or adapter I need to get to make it work? Or if I’m better off just getting a whole different flash?

Laylharvath,

Your manual says that the 250D is compatible with the EL and EX series Speedlights.

The EOS Magazine had a directory of these Speedlights here:

https://www.eos-magazine.com/EOS%20lenses%20and%20Speedlites/EOS%20system/Lenses/Speedlites/speedlitedirecto.html

You can down through the list and do Google searches on each one to see if it will meet your needs and what you can afford.

Godox says your flash works with any camera with a standard hotshoe. That's what it has. If you want a flash that is compatible in all ways with a camera with additional contacts, you need a flash made to work with that camera.

Unless a flash is made to be compatible with Canon (or Nikon or Sony) digital cameras, it's not. If you want a flash that integrates fully with a camera's features and functions, you have to buy one. Even then, an aftermarket brand, from Godox or another maker, will not be 100% guaranteed by Canon to work to do "everything" a Canon will. The flash maker can't make that absolute guarantee either. Canon absolves itself of this in their camera manuals....as do other camera and flash makers.

The EOS 250D lacks the center pin on the hot shoe that’s why it doesn’t work. So it doesn’t have a standard hot shoe. Instead it has a proprietary hot shoe for Canon’s own EX series speedlites. So you’ll need a Canon speedlite ending in EX to work. Or the Canon EL-1 or EL-100 as compatible flash units. Other EL series speedlites are INCOMPATIBLE and only work on certain EOS R series cameras.
