Thank you Tom.

I had called Canon and they told me that the charge had nothing to do with their program and that the charge was from UPS.

The thing that confused me is that the UPS clerk had no idea what the charge was so I thought maybe it was a Canon charge.

Anyway, Tom, you are correct, it must be quite a mark up I had to eat from UPS and will keep that in mind next time I send a camera in.

Im still bummed that I had to send in a brand new R1 and my 100-500 because of a hardware issue. I had saved up for the R1 for quite a while and only used it 3 times before having to send it in. Oh well, that's the way it goes sometimes!

Take care,

Rick

EOS R1 & RF lens repair: $181 Service Fee at UPS?

Hello!

I have an R1 and RF 100-500mm f4.5-7.1 L lens that are having communication problems so I have sent them to Canon for repair.

I utilized the Canon Repair shipping partnership Canon has with UPS and to my surprise was charged a $181 "service fee" for the shipping.

The UPS clerk told me he didnt know what that was and thought it could be the insurance charge for $10,000 worth of coverage.

Has anyone else had a charge like this added to their UPS shipment when sending gear to Canon for service when insuring the equipment?

Thanks very much for your input and I hope you have a great day!

best,

Rick

$181 to ship and protect $10K worth of equipment doesn't seem outrageous for peace of mind.

UPS insurance for $10,000 should be about $100. Now, if you bought your shipping from a UPS store, they add a lot of charges and you pay much more than if you bought shipping from the UPS website and just dropped the package off at a store or actual UPS terminal.
