I'm very dissapointed with Canon engineers and company. I feel I waste my hard earned money in this piece of **bleep**. I never ever been change my trusted Sonys and Nikons camera in behaf of tis piece of **bleep**. What a mees and a loss of time. I really hate Canon products, sucks.

Anybody can give a tip to convert this pile of **bleep** files in old trusted .raw or jpeg files?? appreciate your help

alinsil,

There are a lot of free file converters out there, some online where you don't have to download program to your converter. You just upload a CR3 file and get a jpg back.

There are even free apps that will run on your tablet or phone. I just downloaded one the other day to my tablet that allows me to convert CR3 files to jpgs.

Just do a Google search for Convert CR3 files to jpg.

Greetings,

Respectfully, standards change. Apple changes its standards and requirements more frequently than just about any manufacturer out there. You cannot use the same computer, phone, operating system, car (list goes on) forever. Apple won't support its own older devices either.

Canon hasn't done anything to you. I think you've done this to yourself. We'll do our best to try and help.

What version of Mac OS (version and build) are you running? What about your iPhone?

A converter might allow you to see your images, but its not going to help with the benefits of shooting in RAW. Post processing (editing) and so forth.

Depending on the age of your hardware, you might be limited, at that point you'll have to decide how you want to move forward. Know however that you will run into the same issues regardless of the camera manufacturer.

We will try to help if we can. 🙂

The worst response, canon fanboys are some kind of st... what part don't you understand, mi cac is a 2012 imac with catalina OS, there are no free or pay software to open this garbage file type. Now idiots at CANON must need to warn buyer that you need a 3 year old computer, no more, to work with the camera files, a total mess and loss of time, canon sucks. Thats why I love SONY , NIKON even Pentax. Canon is bull**bleep**.

You have several options. I suggest you read the manual. If you don't shoot in HDR you can save JPEGS. You can also convert HEIF to JPEG in camera:

I own several SONY, Nikon an Pentax cameras, all of them gives jpeg or RAW type files, files that you can read in any computer Mac or PC with at leadt Photoshop or Lightroom.

FYI, the first major consumer electronics company to begin using HEIF files was Apple.

If Apple no longer supports your computer hardware or operating system, then Canon has nothing to do with that. Apple licenses developers to create software for the Apple computers and mobile devices. I don’t believe SDK licenses for commercial app development are still available for your OS.

Being a fanboy has nothing to do with it. It is what it is. Either incorporate it into your workflow, or get another camera that can save the file types you want.
(Even if the r50 saved .cr2, you would still have to update your software to use them, since you must develop the files on a camera to camera basis)
