EOS R6 Mark III - giving temperature warning while shooting sports

The last two high school basketball games I've shot, I have noticed the temperature meter come up. I wasn't paying too much attention to it the first game, but the 2nd game I had around 1300 photos taken (700 in first half and maybe 400 before the meter came up). I did get one pip on the temperature meter too. Has anyone else experienced this? I was shooting on High Speed continuous and not taking too crazy of bursts. My first game with the R6 Mark iii was in a different gym and I didn't have any issues. I'm in the PNW so temps aren't too crazy here.

Hello!

Yes, other Canon R6 Mark III users have reported the temperature meter appearing during extended high‑speed continuous shooting, even in moderate environments. It’s not necessarily overheating, but the camera is warning that sustained bursts and heavy use can build internal heat.

You aren't likely to get into camera damaging temperature with that sort of use BUT you probably want to check how it is impacting image noise when you shoot in less well illuminated gyms.

I would shoot in RAW only and turn off all corrections that can be applied later in post, this will cut the camera processing overhead thus reducing total camera body heat budget which will have some impact on sensor temperature since it will be able to shed heat better when the internal temperature is lower.

I've had no problems with my Mark II but I don't shoot like that. Rodger's advice on turning off all corrections is good. I would turn the camera off at end of quarter or half or extended time out and remove the battery, this will give the camera a little more surface area to dissipate heat, and if that battery is warm replace it.

I just used my r6 markIII last night for wrestling pictures. Less than stellar lighting. Took around 7500 pictures without any issues at all. Was using rf 100-500 lense. Camera did not feel warm at all. Pictures turned out great.

The CF Express card slot can be a major source for heat buildup. The cards were identified as a significant source for heat buildup when capturing hi-res, high frame rate video on the original R5 when it was released.

I would assume the source is most likely the CF Express card for now, until proven otherwise.
