Subject: Canon EOS R5 Mark II – Freezing During Recording and “Card Full” Error

Dear Canon Technical Support Team,

I am experiencing serious recording issues with my Canon EOS R5 Mark II camera. These problems occur regardless of which memory cards I use. I have tested the following cards:

AngelBird AV Pro 1TB (CFexpress Type-B)

SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB (SD)

Delkin Black 512GB (CFexpress)

And several other cards

The main issue is the “Card Full” error:

Even when the memory card has plenty of free space, the camera displays “Card Full.”

If I delete the last recorded file and try again, recording works temporarily, but the same error appears again.

Additional information:

The camera firmware is up to date

Cards are formatted in-camera every time

Overheating is not present during the issue

The problem occurs with both CFexpress and SD cards

This issue is seriously affecting my professional workflow. Please advise whether the camera should be inspected or replaced.

Greetings,

Is this only when recording video? Are you having any issues recording still images to the card(s).

Do you have a card reader available for CFB and SD cards?

What firmware version is your camera running please?

Have you tested with different lenses?

Are you using any accessories connected to the camera. USB C-PD, etc?

Next step make a backup of your existing settings, save to SD card.

Now reset the camera's main and custom settings to defaults.

Retest and report the results.

This issue occurs after pressing pause during recording, usually after I have already recorded around 40–50 video clips (I am not sure of the exact number). After pressing pause, a message appears on the monitor saying that the card is full.

However, photo shooting still works even when the camera displays “card full.”

My firmware is updated to the latest version.
I have not connected any accessories to the camera.

After this error appears, I insert another memory card and continue recording until the same “card full” message appears again.

Dishonest,

When you say you hit "Pause", does this mean that all of the video clips are being recorded to the same file name? If that's the case, It could mean that you are running up against a 4 gb limit to a movie file.

When I say “pressing pause,” I mean even a short pause 5–10 seconds or 1–5 minutes. The recording never reaches a 4GB video file limit.

What I mean is:
After the “card full” message appears, if I delete the last recorded clip (or any previous video clip), the camera starts recording again and continues without any problem until I press pause again.

In this state, the camera can record long videos 10, 20, even 30 minutes or more — with no interruptions, until the moment I press pause.
And after pressing pause, the same “card full” message appears again.

Dikshod,

I'm sorry, but I can't find where your camera has a "Pause" function when shooting movies. From the Canon Knowledge base"

The Canon EOS R5 Mark II does not have a pause feature for movie recording; you can only start and stop recording by pressing the record button. To create a single video, you can edit the clips together afterward.

Movie Recording Features of Canon EOS R5 Mark II

Recording Options

The Canon EOS R5 Mark II does not support a "pause" feature during movie recording.

Users can only start or stop recording by pressing the record button.

Editing Solutions

To create a seamless video, you can record multiple segments and later edit them together using video editing software.

This allows for a smooth transition between different scenes or takes.

User Experience

Many users have expressed frustration over the lack of a pause function, especially when compared to smartphones that offer this feature.

The current design focuses on simplicity, allowing for straightforward start and stop controls.

In summary, while the EOS R5 Mark II lacks a pause feature, users can manage their recordings through careful planning and editing.
