R100 - Unable to take pictures

Can someone tell me why I can’t take any pictures? I have tried everything the camera just will not fire. It was working fine for a few weeks not it won’t take a single picture. I’m not sure if there is a setting I have turned on or what.

Sorry i should say its an R100 with a RF S18-45 lens

Dan,

Have you tried to charge your battery, or tried a new one?

Also, from the picture you provided, it looks like your camera is not talking to your lens. (That's what it looks like when your aperture reads f/00 like your picture shows). It's possible that you have setting that disables your shutter if there is no lens attached.

Go to your Custom functions number 4 and enable shutter release without a lens. Put your camera in P Mode and try it again.

The camera appears to be in manual focus if you look at the upper left corner of your LCD. You may have changed your focus mode or there is a challenge with the body seeing the lens. I would go into menu 4 as suggested above and check your AF settings. If all else fails reset to factory settings After the reset shut off the camera and remove the battery and lens, reinstall and turn the camera on to see if the challenge was resolved.

If the OP is using the RF-S 18-45mm F/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens. They wouldn't need to change any settings. The camera reporting an aperture of F/00 suggests that there is communication issue between the lens and the camera.

Understood Demetrius and it is also showing MF. My suggestion of pulling the battery, remounting the lens and making sure that the focus setting is set to auto is an attempt to cover in totality most of what I'm seeing on the LCD that may be causing the OP's challenge.

The only other suggestion would be to make sure the contacts are clean on both the body and lens.

Hi John - no solution yet. It was working again I was able to set it to AF and take some shots. But when I switched the camera off and turned it back on again it was back to the old MF setting. The option to change from MF to AF has been removed from my settings

You should give canon support a call at 1-800-OK-CANON.
