I own the R5 and had been using the LP-E6NH battery with no problems. This battery is no longer in production, so I bought the LP-E6P. My shutter speed is usually 1600 or higher and the E6P battery couldn't keep up. Canon customer support had me change my Shutter Mode to Electronic. Now the battery works (I think) but I can't hear the shutter anymore to confirm. It will also make me crazy not counting the shutter clicks while shooting. Anybody else dealing with this? What is your work-around?

Check your firmware level this problem has been corrected in version 2.2.0 This update allows full use of the LP-E6P battery in the R5.

I don't think the R5 has a shuttersound in ES. Either use mechanical or EFCS. I upgraded to the R5II which does have a sound(not the reason but welcome).

And as Jkari stated the LP-E6P will be fully functional with the update.

You might be out of luck there without Canon doing something in a update.

This

"The Mechanical Shutter produces a sound and is recommended for use with bright lenses. The Electronic First-Curtain Shutter also produces a sound but uses the second-curtain mechanical shutter. The Electronic Shutter is a silent mode that has no sound but can be more prone to rolling shutter effects".

Quoting the manual

I have the latest update and it didn't make a difference with the shutter speed using the new battery. When I change it to Mechanical or EFCS the battery doesn't work efficiently.

I'd like a work around for Mechanical and shutter sound at the same time if possible.

Oh, Thank you!!! When I'm shooting outdoor sports, I have the aperture as low as possible for a 100-500 lens, shutter speed 1600 and change the ISO as needed. With the kit battery at factory settings and current firmware, I could hear the shutter for each shot. The battery worked great. Once I popped in the E6P battery, the H would blink and the battery couldn't shoot at 1600 -- it was working slower. Canon customer service had me change the settings to Electric and the H stopped blinking, but I cannot hear the shutter and don't really know if it's shooting at 1600 or not.

Manual Mode: Eye tracker, servo, and H (not H+) are on.

Hopefully all of that info helps. I really appreciate your time on this!

You are correct, but it helps to keep track of the battery condition. The R5 high speed modes need a battery that is well charged and in good condition to function correctly.

I tested both battery types the E6NH and the E6P with my R5 and at both H and H+ using 1/1600 shutter speed and had the shutter sound using the Elec First Curtain setting on the shutter mode. I am not sure where to go next except for you to backup your settings then reset the camera and then see what happens. I know you will have to mess with the stupid password again but it might be worth it. If the reset does not solve the problem you can restore the settings from the backup.

Canon support on how to back up and restore settings:

I think this is getting unnecessarily confusing. The only setting which affects the shuttersound is the shutter mode.

Shuttersound is always there when using mechanical(MS) or electronic first curtain(EFCS). What you hear is the shutter curtains moving, no way to stop this.
In electronic shutter mode(ES) there is no sound, shutter stays open. The only way to have a sound is to fake it and Canon has not done this for the R5(other models do have this option, like R7 and R5II).
