EOS R5 lag after turning "Releasing Shutter without Card" off

Good day, I experienced yesterday some lag while experimenting with my macro lens.
I opted out of the "Releasing Shutter without Card" and noticed that all pictures taken were saved on my
Lexar 256GB Pro 2000x SD Card UHS-II V90 instead of on my Delkin Devices Black 1TB CFexpress Type B 4.0 VPG400, thus explaining the perceived lag.
As stated, not a single shot was written of the CF, all shots of the day were saved on the UHS-II.
Is this an after effect of disabling Releasing Shutter without Card?
If yes what the the science behind, obviously it means something different than what I thought it meant...
...the subjects of the experiment...

Good morning

I am using a R5 and the menu might be somewhat different. I am running with "Releasing Shutter without Card On". Check your settings in camera > Image Quality. There you will have settings for the image setups, I have mine setup to record jpegs on the SD card and raw in the Express card this can be changed at this menu point.. If you tap on the settings for the card you want to modify you then select the quality of the photo.

Hahaha, that made me smile, thanks for the feedback. DOP is not great, and subject was moving a lot, it was raining and windy, so a good setup for this experiment.
f/4 1/80sec iso 8000 with a RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM with two MF12 flashes

Hi, thanks for the feedback.
I have almost the same setup, RAW of the CF, but instead of jpeg, I opted for RAW on the SD as well.

Now, please correct me if I am wrong but isn't "Releasing Shutter without Card On" a mode that allows the camera to shoot even if there is no memory card?
Wouldn't we want the option "not" to allow such scenario in the event that we would forget to put back the memory card?
The buffer would show an image but it would not be captured since no card present... right?

Now as to why no picture were captured on the CF, after reading some files, it appears that my camera's "Record func+card/folder sel." was set to "Standard" with the SD card selected as the active recording medium (my bad). My camera was working exactly as instructed, saving all files to the designated card, the SD. When I disabled "Release shutter without a card," I apparently simply made sure the camera wouldn't try to shoot without a card, but it still followed the instruction to only use the SD card when both were present.

So since I am still learning, I decide to have a backup by selecting the following:
Setup / Record func+card/folder sel. / Rec Options / Rec. to multiple

Did i understand the issue correctly?

No.

You need to set how your cards record, store, and play back images and movies. For reference, start on page 956 of your R5 mark II Advanced User Guide. If you wish, just go to the Wrench Tool, item 1 (yellow), "File/card setting" and select "Record func+card/folder sel.". You can just look through your available options to get an idea of whats there and use the User Guide to get a more in depth explanation of the options.

I have my R5 II set up to "Rec. to multiple", which records to both cards at once. And "Play" set to card 1. The latter has some ramifications, but I won't go into that as it's explained in the manual 🙂

I have something similar except I record raw to the express card and jpeg to the SD card. I do this so if one of the cards has a problem I will at least have a copy of the photo. Saving both to both cards is a good redundancy but when one takes a lot of shots you could run out of room on the SD card. With this setup if I disable Releasing Shutter without Card I still get images saved to both cards. Again I am using a R5 so there might be some small differences in the way things are setup
