Thanks Kevin and Steve! If the m series cameras do it, it is a mystery that the R50v doesn't, I must have changed something in the settings, maybe a factory reset is in order. Thank you both for the input!

Hello! I'm using the R50v with manual lenses and it seems like the digital image stabilization is always disabled when I use them. It works fine when I use RF glass. Is there a way to get it to work?

Thanks!

mshawnread,

I'm just guessing, but my thought is that if you are using manual lenses, the lenses are not communicating electronically with the camera, and therefore you won't get image stabilization or electronic auto focus either.

What shooting mode are you using? Are you shooting movies or stills?

Thank you for your replies everyone! I'm using the primary movie mode set to manual, but this happens in every video mode. I don't think digital I.S. works in stills, but I could be wrong about that. One thing I've noticed is on my R6 the digital I.S. works fine, but the I.S. menu on that camera asks for the lens focal length. The R50v doesn't have that option, maybe that's why it's not working.

The M50 which is in some ways a predecessor of the R50 will do Digital IS when shooting video with manual lenses. When shooting in video mode you can even use the Enhanced Digital IS, albeit with a significant extra crop. I'd be surprised if the R50 won't do this.

On my T8i, Movie Digital IS will work with lenses that do not have an IS switch on the lens.

If the lens does have an IS switch, the switch must be turned on.

Movie Digital IS doesn't work with stills.

As Krahe said, the Digital IS causes an additional crop. If you are using a crop sensor camera, the crop starts at 1.6. If you are shooting at 4K, there is an additional crop factor of 1 to 2. If you are using Movie Digital IS, there is an additional crop on top of that. (The manual does not say how much), but you wind up with a total crop of about 3 to 4.

I myself don't use it.
