Kind of strange it would happen with both cards on the same day, don't you think?

Hello, I have been shooting with an R3 for the past 18 months or so using the same gear, a 400 2.8, 70-200 2.8 and a 16-35 2.8, all Canon lenses and have had no problems, until the other day. I was shooting, using the same cards as well, and kept getting BUSY message. I have never experienced this and was not shooting any differently than a hundred times before. It happened with both cards, a Lexar SD 128GB, 1800x, 270 MB/s and Pro Grade CF Express 128 1700MB/s

I pulled the battery and reset it and reinserted the cards, but it happened again.

After it happened, I uploaded the latest firmware, but I can't imagine that was the reason. Has anyone experienced this? Thanks!

You might try putting fresh cards in.
