topic EOS 100D USB connection not recognised anymore (Win11) in EOS DSLR & Mirrorless Cameras

Hi !

I've been using an EOS100D for a few month now, and it has been working like a charm. I'm connecting it to my PC with a USB cable and until now I never had trouble transfering my pictures and using the camera as a webcam with EOS utility.

But today, when I try plugging the camera on the PC (Windows 11), it doesn't work anymore.

The camera isn't turning in "connection mode" (with the laptop logo on the DSLR screen)

the SD drive isn't showing in the explorer

EOS Webcam Utility doesn't seem to find the camera (using it in OBS Studio)

But some clues seem to show that the camera is indeed connected to the computer correctly:

I can hear the the USB connecting sound effect

I can eject the "Canon Digital Camera" in the USB ejection utility (though it doesn't seem to work when I click it)

And most importantly: it perfectly works on my laptop, which is also Windows 11, but I think isn't up to date.

So I fear it might be the latest Windows 11 that messed everything up. Do anyone of you has an idea to fix it? I'd reaaaally like to keep using my camera with my desk PC.

Thanks

Greetings,

Two thoughts immediately come to mind, one is system restore. This is part of the Windows operating system and allow you to revert the system to a point in time where things worked. Doesn't affect your data, only the system.

Second option. Consider implementing a backup solution. All hardware fails, it's just a matter of time. A disk image backup protects your data and allows you to recover your system or files (in minutes) in the event of deletion or hardware failure.

On to your issue

Have you tried connecting to a different USB port On the desktop? I'm sure you're connecting directly to an available USB port and not through a hub or adapter.

You can also open Device Manager and expand +USB settings when the camera is connected to if there is a problem with the driver. Look for a red exclamation ❗or yellow triangle ⚠️.

Hi Rick, thanks for your answer,

Yes I tried several USB ports and unfortunately nothing worked.I was afraid it would require a system restore. I'll try eventually if nothing else works. But it's a shame if I can't update Windows anymore just to have access to my photos on my computer...

Greetings,

I'm sure you'll be able to update your system again. It's possible it was the sequence that updates may have been installed. Try again after system restore and see what happens.

EOS 100D USB not recognized on Windows 11? Try a different USB cable/port, reinstall drivers, or use EOS Utility. Also, check camera is in the correct mode.
