topic V Mount with R6M2 and Battery grip. in EOS DSLR & Mirrorless Cameras

I have the EOS R6M2 with the BG-R20 battery pack. As long as I’m using the original canon batteries, can I use a V mount via USB-C as a back up while the batteries are still installed in the battery pack? It’s normally used in a rig system and I did not want to remove the battery pack and put one in the slot and find the cover in the middle of a shoot. I was also under the impression that it’s safer to use USB-C than a dummy battery.

Thanks for your help. I wasn’t sure about the R6M2 with the battery pack. I’m assuming that if I have fully charged “Canon” batteries in the pack and connect the v mount via usb-c that I should be fine. I bought a V mount primarily for the R50 with a dummy battery. But wasn’t sure if I could use it for the R6M2 if necessary without pulling the battery pack off. Maybe it’s just good practice to pull the battery pack off with a fully charged battery installed. Wasn’t sure. I didn’t want to fry anything or ruin battery/camera.

Greetings,

Depending on the model of your V-mount you can use it with a dummy battery or a standard Canon battery installed. In fact the battery doesn't even have to be Canon OEM, but I recommend that's what you use. I can confirm that it works with Canon or Watson batteries. Important. Make sure the battery has over 60% charge. The V-mount will not charge the battery while the camera is on. It won't deplete, but it won't charge and you always want 60% or more for high function (frame rates) etc.

Plugged in via USB-C PD. 5 V went off and assuming charging, and 9 V with the camera on. The battery has a voltage read out.
