EOS R7 with a RF100-500mm lens in FV mode

I have been using this camera and lens for about 6 months and was getting along swimmingly with it.

Today for some strange reason everything went wrong. It was a bright day and I was photographing insects.

I assumed (I know) that the camera was performing as normal but when I downloaded the images they were awful.

The settings were ISO3200, 1/100sec and an f number off the scale at f51.

How is this even possible. What did I do?

Had a quick run out tonight with the camera on Av mode and it seems fine

Can we see some example pictures in the forum. What setup are you using exactly. Is a teleconverter being used if so F/51 could be an available aperture. I would also check your Auto ISO range.

I was using the Canon R7 with the Canon RF 100-500 f4.5-7.1L IS USM lens

No teleconvertor.

I have to ISO range set from 100-6400.

I was using the Fv setting. I have been trying to upload a photograph but this is my first visit to the forum and I'm doing something it wont accept.

Greetings AfterTheRain,

I suggest you start shooting in RAW or RAW+JPG. Download Canon's Digital Photo Professional. It's free. It's an excellent post-processing editor and after you've edited a RAW image or batch of images to your liking, you can export them as JPEGs.

The forum has limits to the size and types of the images that you can upload. In order for you to share RAW images with us, you will need to use a file host as @Peter suggested... Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc. Post a link to the share and will grab the images and evaluate them for you.

Trust me you will enjoy and appreciate shooting in RAW. ❤️❤️❤️

Years ago when I was selling work I used Raw/JPEG.

I'd work on the Raw files and they ended up about on a par with my JPEGs.

I no longer sell photos and I'm not good with the computer so I stick with JPEG.

The last thing I'll add then is DPP also includes lens profiles for Canon lenses. Even if you do no post process during, you pictures will look better using RAW and DPP. You ten use the feature convert and save to create jpegs. Anyway, to each his own. You have a nice camera and a beautiful lens. Your call. 😀
