R7 IBIS issues using adapted EF-mount Tamron lens

I recently purchased a new R7. I am trying to use a Tamron 90mm macro SP Di EF-mount lens adapted with a meike EF-RF adapter. Everything with the lens works just fine, but the IBIS is deactivated whenever using it. The lens does not have IS, and the menu option for enabling IBIS does not appear when I have this lens attached. When I use my Canon 18-55mm EFS lens on the R7 with this adapter, IBIS works and is enabled/disabled via the lens IS switch as expected. I think perhaps with the Tamron lens, the adapter is erroneously communicating to the camera that it has IS and that it is disabled. Does anyone have experience with a work-around for this problem?

Stick with the Canon brand adapter. 3rd Party Mount adapters cause nothing but trouble. It could also be an incompatibility with the lens.

deebatman316 gives sound advice, I used the Meike adapter and it also had challenges. It went back and I picked up the inexpensive Canon adapter. I can only add that you may want to check to see if you have the latest firmware for your lenses.

I purchased a canon adaptor and it did not resolve the problem. The camera is still incorrectly detecting that the lens has stabilization and is deactivated. Bummer.

The lens does not have stabilization. The camera is incorrectly detecting that it does, and also that it is deactivated. So IBIS is not active and I cannot enable it. Even with the canon EF-EOS RF adapter.

In my last post this was in regards to a lens with IS. Lenses without IS rely solely on IBIS if enabled. You likely have come across an incompatibility with the lens. You can reach out to Tamron about this and see if the firmware can be updated.

"This lens predates Tamron's tap-in system"

deebatman316 probably nailed it, because of the age of the lens and the inability to update the firmware it's incompatible with the R7 and most likely any of the R series bodies. I may be incorrect but I believe that the Tamron 90mm macro SP Di EF was released in 1997, it's a bit dated.

Greetings,

The R7 is particularly finicky with 3rd party lenses. Older lenses like his with certainty.

My recommendation would be to replace it.

I just checked the Tamron site for updates and found this:

Here is the link to that page. It does look like there was a firmware update but the R7 isn't mentioned.

Yeah I think that this just isn't a lens I will be able to use with IBIS (though I'm still considering trying to mask pins on the EF-RF adapter). I guess I'm saving up for a newer lens.
