I recently bought a Canon R5. I also own an R7. On the R7, there are several choices for RAW quality setting. I see only one on the R5. There must be a way to set high, medium and low RAW settings on the R5. I've looked at the manual and some articles. I can't find an answer. This pertains to photos, not video.

You have lossless compressed RAW and lossy compressed Compact RAW, CRAW.

You can also use 1,6x crop mode.

Welcome to the site Don

The R5 does not have the functionality to reduce the quality of the Raw file, it captures everything the sensor has to offer. Once selected you will always capture recorded images full resolution get 45M @ 8192x5464 as the standard. Only when you shoot JPEG can you adjust the captured quality settings. The other is to capture both, Raw full resolution and JPEG which has seven quality settings.

The EOS R7 only has two RAW selections, RAW and C[RAW] (compressed Raw), as does the EOS R5. Are you sure you have the camera names correct. There are several JPeG and HEIF size options. IIRC, some of my Rebels had L, M, and S Raw selections, and my 5D mark IV has Medium(M) and Small(S) RAW, but not so on my R7 and R5.

From the R7 user manual.

Once you un-mount the lens and place a full frame lens on there you will have the ability to make the change. The camera most of the time unless it is a 3rd party off brand recognizes the lens type and makes the correct adjustment. It does the same for Sigma and I believe Tamron (not 100% sure). Mount and non-EF S lenses and it will be fine.

"2.8 L USM and 2.8 L IS USM"

Going from exactly what you wrote in your question, 2.8 L USM does not have image stabilization (IS) while the 2.8 L IS USM does offer image stabilization. A lens that offers IS will always cost you just a bit more but can be helpful depending on your style of photography. Here is the information for the R7 IBIS (In Body Image Stabilization), you can find more about the R7 Specifications here if you would like to view the full PDF's: R7 Specifications

Is the power on the entire time or does it drain when it's powered down?

If it occurs when the power is on what are your WiFi and Bluetooth settings? If they are on you may want to shut them off and enable airplane mode and see if the issue stops.
