Hi, I have two EOS R5’s and have from the word go named the image files R5C1 and R5C2 so as to identify both bodies. This has worked fine until recently when I reset the cameras and updated the firmware. I now get file names starting _R5C on both cameras and although I have reset the ‘settings one to R5C1’ and ‘settings two to RC1’ I still get image numbering as _R5C. I have been through the manual many times and reset the file settings many times but it stays the same. What am I doing wrong.

In your menu (I believe red camera settings menu) check to see if you have the color space set to sRGB or Adobe RGB. If you have it set to Adobe RGB, it automatically adds an underscore to the beginning of the filename.

Marc is correct. Open the menu and go to the Shooting 3 menu item, then change color space to sRGB. If you want Adobe RGB, then the underscore will always be there to differentiate between sRGB and Adobe RGB. If you are shooting Raw, color space can be changed in your Raw editor, so in camera color space doesn't really mater unless you are also shooting JPeG along with Raw.

Save your camera configuration(s) to an inexpensive SD card. You will need to keep track of which camera uses which card. Your memory card read/write configuration can change, too, following a firmware update via memory card.

As for file naming, I use the EOS Utility to rename and sort files on the fly during a download. The serial number is always unique to each camera.

Thanks Mark that has fixed it. I was using sRGB but on recommendation from an on line review I changed it to Adobe RGB. I have now reverted to sRGB and the file name is as I want it. Thanks for coming to my rescue before I threw the camera!
