EOS R5 Mark II turns on between the switch is “off” & “lock”

My camera will be turned on before the “lock” position, even only 1-2mm away from the “off” position. Is this normal?

If you happen to have this product in your hand, can you try it for me? Push slowly from the off position to see if it will be opened in advance from the lock position.

Yes, that seems to be the case. But in practice, since there's a decent amount of resistance on the switch, the odds of someone slowing moving the switch towards the on position, then changing their mind and moving back, would effectively be zero.

Sir, you’re right. I might be “too strict” to the machine. But it is a little bit strange that the machine can be turned on before the “lock” position. Maybe… It’s a design by Canon🤣 Anyway, thank you for your attempt and reply!

If switch doesn’t stay in place when you let go of it, then what difference does it make? My advice is to stop doing that before something bad happens.

My point is, that area before “lock” is not supposed to be the place where I can turn on my camera. According to my use, when I let go and the switch will stop in the middle before “lock” and keep the power on. I did see a user with a more serious situation than me. He could turn on the camera with a slight press on the switch, so he go to repair it. If most of us have the same situation, then maybe is a design by Canon so there’s nothing I should worried about. If others don’t, then I have to go and repair it too. Anyway I will accept your suggestion and thanks for your reply too.

I am having a related issue with the on off switch. (R5 Mark II - Less than a week old, won't stay turn... - Canon Community) the camera keeps turning on randomly even while the switch is in the off position and pressing it farther to the left turns it off. so perhaps our issues are related and the switches for the R5 Mark II are not aligned properly.

If you can return it and exchange it for another I would. Its seems to be a similar issue what I am dealing with where the switch wont turn the camera off. I would hate to see your issue get worse with time. (R5 Mark II - Less than a week old, won't stay turn... - Canon Community)

My R5 II doesn't do that. No mater how slow I switch it, it doesn't power on until it hits Lock.

Maybe yours is a hair out of spec.

Maybe we are experiencing the same "switch problem", which shows that I am not the only one who has encountered the problem. That would be Canon’s problem, so I'm going to repair it. If there's really a problem, they may not give me a new machine, so the brand-new machine is about to be disassembled. And that is really heartbreaking...

To be more descriptive, my R5 II power switch has no play at all and is quite solid. By the time I have put enough pressure on it to power up, it pops (clicks) right to the Lock position then to normal On position, so there is no space/play between Off, Lock, and On. It's the same with our R6 II, which has the same power configuration.

I'm not sure what, if any, problems this particular power switch behavior would have long term, but if it annoyed me, you can be assured it would be returned or repaired. But, mine is fine so I will never know 🙂

There is no problem with the switch "click" of my R5m2, but it is in the middle of "off" and "lock". If I deliberately put the switch between those two positions, the machine will be turned on. Although there is no "click" in that position.

To all the friends who care about this issue:

Today, I went to the official maintenance center and looked at their prototype r5m2. I found the same situation, which shows that it is not an individual “problem” and is no longer a "problem".

Thank you again for your patient answers and solutions. Wish we all have better lives and create more beautiful moments with our machines.
