EOS R8 - Screen won't dim

I'm having a terrible time with my R8 overheating when shooting video in direct sunshine. I'm only getting about 3 minutes of record time even at 1080 @ 30FPS

I have tried to adjust my monitor settings to dim / power off after 15 - 30 seconds, but when I am recording, the monitor never dims/sleeps. Is there another setting that overrides this setting or is this how it is supposed to work?

Interesting, when I am just looking at the screen while in the menu, and not actively recording, it dims/sleeps correctly. Just not while shooting.

This seems to be the root of my over heating issue. If I close the monitor panel so that it turns off, I can shoot for a longer period.

I appreciate your insights!

I found this statement "...when I am recording, the monitor never dims/sleeps" curious.

Full disclosure: I don't shoot video.

So wouldn't you want the screen NOT to dim or sleep while you're shooting video so you could monitor what you're shooting?

Again, I'm coming from a place of total curiosity.

You're absolutely right. You do kind of need to see what you are shooting in order to keep it in frame! That said, if you are shooting a static scene from a tripod, you can fold the monitor in and turn it off that way.

What I am finding curious is that it isn't the camera overheating because I'm shooting at too high a frame rate or resolution. It is just that the monitor itself is getting very hot.

Thanks for your thoughts!
