Hello!

While Canon EOS M cameras lack a dedicated AF-ON button, you can enable Back Button Focus by reassigning the AE Lock (*) button to activate autofocus within the camera's Custom Functions menu. Then, reconfigure the shutter button half-press to only control metering or exposure lock. This separates focusing (done with the reassigned back button) from taking the picture (done with the shutter button), providing similar control to dedicated Back Button Focus systems.
