Thanks. That's what I thought. And no, the microswitch is fine. I left the cover open (the oldtimers' advice: never leave your camera bag unzipped and never close the cover over an empty card slot) and must have somehow compressed my camera bag while on a shoot, snapping the cover. Sadly, superglue won't hold it together. Sigh . . . I will have to send it off to Hampton Roads Canon Service Center when I get tired of the rubber bands.

I have broken the memory card door on my R5. Since I have been shooting Canon for more than 20 years, I am amazed this hasn't happened before. I am wondering if this is a user-replaceable part. The spring looks a bit fiddly to put in place. Does anyone know if I need to send it back through CPS to fix this? It's not a huge deal, but it's kludgy walking around with a rubber band holding the cover in place.

I hope you didn’t damage the micro switch on the body that detects when the door is closed properly.

You can check with Canon Service. I think I would just get a battery grip.

Greetings,

You can call the Canon Parts Dept, but I suspect the memory card door is going to be a service only repair.
