I finally bit the bullet and got a mirrorless camera for the new grandbaby. I've setup everything as instructed and watched all the "How To" videos. I'm sure I'm missing something very simple, but when I push the shutter button, nothing happens. No picture is taken. I've tried every mode possible. I have a micro SD card inserted, and it's fully charged. Any suggestions on what I"m missing?

Thank you all in advance. Look forward to learning from this group!

First don’t use adapted Micro SD Cards. These cause all sorts of problems. Use Full Sized SD these are less likely to cause problems. What lens are you using it the one that came with the camera.

I will replace the SD card tomorrow to see if that helps. Yes, I'm using the stock lens that came with the camera. I have noticed that it is extended and I can't see a way to retract it in manual mode or any other.

Which lens is it the 18-45mm or the 18-150mm either lens can come with the camera. I’m assuming it’s the 18-45mm lens. To retract the lens turn the zoom ring so the white line and white dot line up. The zoom ring is the one closest to you. The ring at the tip of the lens is the control ring.

What mode is the camera set to on the top mode dial. If it’s set to A+ the camera sets everything. Make sure you’re taking a picture of something with plenty of contrast. Also make sure you’re not taking a picture of something too close to the camera. Every lens has a minimum focusing distance. If something is within that it will never be in focus. For example the camera cannot focus on a clear blue sky because it lacks contrast.

I also don't recommend anyone use a micro-SD but that's not what is causing your camera to work. Get rid of it anyway.
