Does anybody know how to check image count on canon r8? Want to buy it from ebay and watn to be sure about condition.

I might make the following suggestion. Buy the R8 refurbished from Canon. Refurbished products come with the same one-year warranty at a brand new camera does. It's a lot safer than buying from eBay.

Having a shutter count was a misleading metric for hybrid DSLRs. It is even more misleading when it comes to an MILC camera body.

The R8 uses both mechanical and electronic shutters. You can’t tell which one was used

I'm on board with the others shutter count if it is even possible to get an accurate one on a R8, is pretty much meaningless. You are better off just looking very carefully at the condition of the outside of the camera. How new looking is it?

Try eosmsg mlv version, which can accurately display mechanical and electronic shutters as well as the total number of shots taken. eosmsg support EOS R EOS RP EOS R3 R5 R1 R5m2 R6 R7 R10 R6m2 R8 R50 R100.

EOSMSG can provide an estimate of a camera's shutter count, but it may not be accurate and it can be manipulated so whatever results is pretty much useless.

It’s not available in any either the Apple or Microsoft Stores, which is not a good thing.

If you have a Mac or iOS device ShutterCount by Dire Studio can give you what you want (Ignore any comments from folks that have never used the product). But, in my opinion, shutter count should only be used as a gross discriminator. If camera A has 3000 and camera B has 250000 go for A. Other than that just recognize that a shutter can fail at any time and it isn’t that expensive to replace. Much more important is the physical appearance. Was it treated well or not.

R8 seems to store the exposure count in the metadata, just like R5/R6/R6 II.

Shutter count apps may be helpful for estimating camera usage, they shouldn't be considered a definitive measure of a camera's condition. Some, perhaps all of them, shutter count apps have disclaimers stating they are not responsible for how accurate they are. It really doesn't matter if we used a particular one or not there are too many factors that limit how accurate a shutter count app is or can be. Now you may think yours is accurate but that's simply your opinion not fact. It might be.

Five different camera bodies over the years. Two Rebels and three 1D versions. Read count before sending to Canon for service/cleaning. Same count as Canon reported. Reliable enough for me.

And I can find five other cameras where the counts were different. So what, all it proves is they may be accurate or they may not.

Exposure count for R8 and R50 added to Exiftool. Mechanical + electronic shutter. Shutter movements from power on/off not included.
