I'm curious about your advice to make sure the eyecup is properly seated. Would this have some effect on the screen's performance? I recently switched from the original eyecup to an extended one and wonder if this could possibly be a contributing factor though I don't see how and my blackout problem began a few weeks after the switch. Thanks for your reply.

I've been using my R7 (with RF100-500 lens) for more than a year and have the latest firmware installed. Without changing any settings and quite out of the blue, my preview screen has started to malfunction. It will be working fine for previewing shots I've just taken...then suddenly stop working and go black. The preview and info buttons won't work to display the images or the menu or anything else. The viewfinder preview continues to work normally and I can see the menu here as well...just nothing on the touch screen. If I turn the camera off and then on again, this will sometimes fix the problem and allow me to use the screen again. It will work normally for a while...then suddenly go black again. I have fully charged batteries. Any ideas?

It seems like the camera needs to be serviced. Make sure the EVF rubber eyecup is properly seated.
