Was it fulfilled by Amazon or the Amazon market place? There are a lot of grey market dealers in the marketplace. You have to be really careful with Amazon.

Most people here recommend to *not* buy from Amazon unless you really know what you are doing.

Unable to register EOS R6 Mark II bought via Amazon

Bought a R6 Mark II through the Canon store on Amazon (USA). When I tried to register, it says that this camera was not intended for sale in the USA. I called Canon, and their only advice was to return it. Amazon is listed as an authorized dealer (as long as it’s not fulfilled by a non-Canon seller). Has anyone had this issue? Is it possible to buy a camera on Amazon and get it registered? Thanks!

If your camera is listed as not intended for sale in the US it sounds like you did buy from a 3rd party reseller on Amazon. Unfortunately, Amazon does list 3rd party resellers on their Canon USA page, so please do return it and if buying again, verify it says, "sold and shipped by Amazon".

It was purchased through the Canon page, and says it’s shipped and sold by Amazon.com.
I’ve purchased other things through the same page and never had an issue.
Also, the “Warranty” section on the page does link directly to the Canon warranty info.

Greetings ,

There is obviously an issue here. Canon does not have an online store on Amazon. Amazon creates "stores" for the larger vendors they have a selling relationship with. However, Canon does not have any control over the items being distributed.

On occasion, grey market items can reach Amazon's warehouses and although Amazon.com (itself) is an authorized Canon dealer, the merchandise being provided could have been missed during the inspection process. The probability for this is low, but it can happen.

If your camera does not have a USA warranty card, I suggest you return it. It is safest to buy directly from Canon or from stores like B&H, Adorama or BestBuy. Unfortunately, you can come across grey market items almost anywhere. It's very important that you not support this trade. I'm not saying Amazon intentionally sold you grey market gear. Canon and Amazon partner and work very hard together to ensure only products intended for sale in the US are distributed.

The bottom line however, is grey market items might not be able to be registered and will not have a US warranty. It's not worth it. Amazon.com will definitely take the return if you tell them it's an international version and intended for sale in another country.

I know you're excited to have your camera but get one with a US warranty 🙂

Amazon doesn’t have a storefront for Canon or any other camera manufacturers. So I think you’re mistaken. You may have found the section with storefronts that sell Canon gear. But Amazon creates storefronts NOT Canon USA.

Good to know. I just assumed that Canon would have some input on the “Store”. Oh well.

The problem is Amazon puts all the products from different venders in the same bin, so they don't know which is from what vender when they fulfill an order.

Definitely return it. Sure, the camera is likely to be flawless in its operation. I moved to Canon in 1998 and have NEVER had even the slightest glitch. BUT, as this forum shows, some do experience glitches and having a warranty you can access is a bit of peace of mind. Protect yourself.

I trust B&H Photo because a friend of mine grew up in NYC and he knows the people behind the operation personally.

Because of them, he got into photography.

My experience with B&H was stellar and then when Dave asked where I bought my equipment, I learned of his connection. He's literally said "If you ever have a problem, ask for Name and tell him you're a friend of Dave Lastname."

I've never had an issue but that "mom and pops" feel reminds me of my favorite, long defunct camera store: Frank's Highland Park Camera in the LA sprawl.

Others have mentioned stores that they trust which sell Canons with USA warranties, so I do not wish to make it seem that B&H is the only reliable dealer. I can only offer my positive experience to the conversation.

The key here is whether it has a Canon USA warranty card inside the box. If it does not then it is not a Canon USA product. Personally I would return it. According to Amazon itself, 61% of all unit sales on Amazon come from independent sellers. You obviously found one.

My advice it do not buy any photographic gear from Amazon especially those big glorious packages. Total junk! But this also goes for SD or CF memory cards and batteries. Another reason is counterfeits which can be so good they are hard for experienced pros to distinguish them from the real deal Canon until they crap out or damage your gear.
