Greetings,

The T3i is a 14-year-old camera. A used T3i sells for about $120 to $170. The cost to replace your shutter would probably be around $400 You may have difficulty finding someone to service it. It's probably not worth the cost of shipping and repair. Money might be better spent on a new or replacement body.

EOS Rebel T3i Repair Troubles! Mirror is stuck!

So an explanation, I was recently given an EOS Rebel T3i (with no lenses) by someone I know who's business is photography, and they gave it away because it was "broken". I came to find out that the problem with the camera was busted shutter blades, as they had been used WELL past their 100,000-200,000 shutter lifetime and the rivets had broken on them. Upon taking the camera apart recently and doing a Shutter Blade replacement recently, after reassembly, the Shutter Blades work fine now, but now every time I take a picture, the Mirror is completely wonky! It won't rest all the way down in its normal resting position, every time I take a picture I have to take the lens off to pull it back down, and even with an EF-S lens on the camera, I get SUPER weird behavior with exposure prediction and Autofocus REFUSES to work.

Also, before you ask, yes I have Mirror Lockup Disabled. Does anybody think they know what I can do to fix this? When I first had the camera, the mirrors were fine even with the screwed up shutter blades, but I am not sure what I touched inside the camera to cause them to mechanically disassociate like this!

Just thought I would come back to mention, I fixed the problem myself and the camera works fine now. The spring that holds the mirror down simply fell off the mirrors guiding tab during my repair.

Repairing things the right way is always more economical than buying new things. If you don't have something to say that answers the real question that the person is asking, don't reply at all and let someone who cares do.
