T8i failure to connect. No Wi-fi Access point?

I have a T8i, and if this is not the right place to post this, just direct to the right one.

Last night we had a major storm and we lost power. As a result, my home Wi-fi router went out.

It gave me a chance to test something. If I'm out in the middle of Timbuktu, with no Wi-fi for miles. could I wirelessly tether my camera?

I use Camera Connect and Control for my software.

When I tried connecting, I got an error message that there was no Wi-fi.

Doesn't the device directly connect to the camera using some kind of Wi-fi chip in the camera itself, or do I need some kind of external Wi-fi access point?

At that point, should I pair using Bluetooth?

Hi Steve,

Have a look at this KB article. You can use this method anywhere. No external Wi-Fi or concavity is required. The camera is the host. It broadcasts Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Thank you. I will read and study these.

My Wi-fi connection works so well now that I'm hesitant to monkey with it too much. I am definitely not a computer or a Wi-fi person. I tried the Bluetooth approach last night and it didn't work, but I don't think I followed the steps correctly. I am going to try again.

I did the wired, USB approach and it worked like a charm. The connection was instantaneous.

A guy in a computer store nicely gave me a USB adapter that I think operates like a Wi-fi access point - sort of like how a wireless mouse operates I think. Thought I'd give that a try too.

Thank you for your help.

I paid a little more attention to the steps and was able to successfully pair my camera to my tablet via Bliuetoorh.

I then went back and re-established a connection via Wi-fi.

Now, the next time I'm out in the middle of the Sahara desert, I can successfully shoot lions from the safety of my Range Rover.
